Good news... No Time to Waste~

I just got a text this morning for my mom that my Dad's coworker, whom he just visited in the hospital yesterday, passed away during the night.  I have never met this woman but am still saddened by this news because her passing happened so very fast. Two weeks ago, this woman found out she had cancer and in that time it spread throughout the whole of her body; now she is gone.  It's unbelievable how abrupt and harsh life can be. Last week I heard news of an old acquaintance, an individual I have not seen in 20 years, died  unexpectedly.  I don't know the details. What I do know is that his death has brought a lot of the old to life.  People that I have not seen or spoken to in a very long time I will be seeing again very soon in honor of this person's life.  We will join together to celebrate a life instead of mourning it. I think that's by far the best way to honor someone, to celebrate them and their time here. Then, the week before last, I heard ne...

"Light On Life"

This is little excerpt is from Mr. B.K.S. Iyengar's book, "Light On Life."   I shared this in class last night.  Enjoy! "The life of the householder is difficult, and it always has been.  Most of us encounter hardship and suffering, and many are plagued by physical and emotional pain,  stress, sadness, loneliness, and anxiety.  While we often think of these as the problems caused by the demands of modern life, human life has always had the same hardships and the same challenges---making a living, raising a family, and finding meaning and purpose. These have always and will always be the challenges that we humans face.  As animals, we walk the earth.  As bearers of a divine essence, we are among the stars.  As human beings, we are caught in the middle, seeking to reconcile the paradox of how to make our way upon the earth while striving for something more permanent and more profound.  So many seek this greater Truth in the heavens, b...

Let Life be a Deep Let Go~

“Don’t try to force anything. Let life be a deep let-go." “…That which is going to happen will happen. Whenever it is going to happen it will happen; you need not fight existence. You can surrender, you can trust.” ~Osho I shared this quote in class  today .  So this post is per student requests.  I see my practice as the opportunity to learn the art of letting go and falling into my life.  Instead of always trying to change the way things are in my life to change things to my liking and/or expectations takes a lot of practice and remembrance on my part.  I tend to want to push things along especially if I am ready for change.  I am learning.   Anyway,  this mornings class had a steady flowing pace with longer holds in certain poses.  It was a potpourri sequence with legs up the wall for 10 minutes and a 10 minute savasana (final resting pose). Yes, you read that right. The last 20 was devoted to rest a deep let go.  I'l...

Moments~

Moments... The past few weeks have been full of memorable moments, beginnings and endings, intensity and tranquility, and a coming back together of sorts. On Tuesday, May 21, Liam graduated from Kindergarten and was promoted to first grade.  He shared with me a couple of times over the last week of school how excited he was about graduating and becoming a first grader.  It made me smile with a simple joy at his growth and ease in moving on, and moving forward.  All the K kids wore a paper cap with tassel, received a diploma of sorts, walked across the stage, took a bow, shook hands and went back to stand on the risers.  Liam looked like he'd done his walk across the stage and bow before. What a bow he made.  What a pro!   It was a proud moment for sure full of songs and giggles, family and cake. Liam and Dustin~ So cute! That same week, May 23rd to be exact, Jason and I celebrated our 8th wedding anniversary.  Of course,  I took time t...

Big and Wide Open~

Image
Photo Credit: Mathew Dols I'm listening to Ben Howard and feeling quite nostalgic.  My head is still a bit clogged and foggy from being sick, which may have something to do with the state I am in. But truthfully, it feels more like old stuff that's coming up and moving out.   Either way, I feel inspired to write and let this inner desire for understanding and expression take place. I really can't help but marvel at the way time passes,  along with people and places and moments that seem to live forever.  There are certain moments and times in life that shape so much of who we are, what we become along the way, and the way in which we find our way into our self. For me, there have been many wonderful people, places and moments that have shaped me into the person I am now.  I am not just speaking of the big and obvious things like marriage and having children.  You see,  I grew up an army brat and moved around a lot. I moved from state to state,...

Learning and Loving

"Life is the school.  Love is the lesson." I don't know who's words these are, but I discovered them on a bumper sticker.  I now have this bumper sticker on our element.  Every time I go to get in the Element,  I read them and nod my head and say, "Yup, that's right."  Really, this is all I need to know and remember.    Life is full of opportunities to learn and grow.  And everyday offers me something new to take in or contemplate. My life may not be very exciting, but I can assure you that it is never boring.  Redundant maybe, but never boring. In fact, this week was full of a fair amount of chaos in the form of emotions and wild thoughts, and mini meltdowns,  and some sleep deprivation. Indeed, this week has been a rough one, though today has been great.  I am thankful for a full night of rest and a peaceful smooth morning.  Maybe we all know it's Friday.  I don't know what that means really, other than...
